Are you an experienced and dedicated Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? We are currently working in partnership with a welcoming and forward-thinking primary school in Durham that is seeking a committed Teaching Assistant to provide full-time, one-to-one support for a pupil with complex ASC needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference within a supportive and inclusive school environment, working closely with experienced staff and specialist professionals to support a child's academic, social, and emotional development.

Role
  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with complex ASC needs
  • Support communication, emotional regulation, and engagement with learning activities
  • Implement structured routines and positive behaviour support strategies
  • Assist with personal care where required, ensuring dignity, safety, and wellbeing at all times
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, the SENCO, therapists, and external professionals
  • Help maintain a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment

Requirements – Essential
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly ASC
  • Understanding of communication, sensory, and behavioural needs associated with autism
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Willingness to support personal care where required
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Reliability, commitment, and an interest in securing a long-term opportunity
Desirable
  • Experience working within a specialist provision or ASC unit
  • Knowledge of strategies such as visual supports, structured teaching, or intensive interaction
  • Full-time role with an immediate start available
  • Opportunity to transition into a permanent contract following a successful placement
