Job Summary
The Extension Program Assistant supports the 4‑H program in Henderson County, assisting the 4‑H Agent with program development, volunteer recruitment and training, event coordination, and marketing. The role is full‑time (37.5 hours per week) and requires flexibility to attend evening, night, and weekend activities.
Primary Responsibilities- Assist in creating a comprehensive 4‑H program and facilitate Special Interest Programs such as Sewing, Agricultural Day Camp, Mini Gardening, the FRESH program at the Carl Sandburg Historic Site, livestock judging, and cooking with STEM.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer leaders to deliver programs effectively.
- Collaborate with advisory committees to identify community needs and program opportunities.
- Assist with 4‑H Club administration, school enrichment programs, and County, District, and State events when needed.
- Maintain accurate records of hours worked and document accomplishments in the Extension Reporting System.
- Support marketing efforts through newsletters, newspaper articles, Facebook, websites, and other media.
- Travel within the county and occasionally to district and state events.
- Attend evening, night, or weekend events as required.
- High‑school diploma or equivalent (advanced training in related fields preferred).
- Experience working with diverse populations and developing, training, and recruiting volunteers.
- Strong planning, organizing, and collaborative skills with adult volunteer leaders.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to relate to and understand youth and adults.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 lb occasionally and 30 lb frequently; ability to stand, sit, kneel, stoop, and reach; tolerance for extreme heat, humidity, and sun exposure.
