Division of Academic and Student Affairs – The Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) is where students discover connections and community. It serves all students at NC State through academic affairs, student affairs and University College.

The Office of Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes (ASPSA) – A comprehensive support program that strives to meet the academic, personal and professional development needs of all student‑athletes, promoting excellence and effectiveness in undergraduate and graduate education, leadership and civic engagement.

Mentor Position

The primary role of a mentor is to meet with the assigned student‑athlete to develop and improve time‑management skills and productive study habits.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with student‑athletes to develop time‑management skills and study habits.
  • Assist student‑athletes to set short‑term and long‑term academic goals.
  • Assist student‑athletes with requesting Disability Services Office accommodations, if needed.
  • Communicate in a timely manner regarding academic progress.
  • Participate in group training and supervision meetings.
  • Attend non‑revenue generating sporting events (free attendance).

Schedule

Ten hours weekly; days and evenings required, including Sundays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience working with student‑athletes or in an academic support role.
  • Ability to relate to students who have a wide range of academic backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Willingness to work in a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to teach study skills and learning strategies.

Employment Type:

Part‑time or full‑time. Perks and benefit eligibility is based on employment status.
