Extension Agent, 4-H Youth Development (Assistant, Associate or Full Agent)
The North Carolina Cooperative Extension system is looking for an Extension Agent to lead and expand the 4-H Youth Development program in Cumberland County. The successful candidate will help establish and maintain traditional 4-H clubs, school enrichment, summer camps, after‑school programs, and the 4-H Military Program at Fort Bragg.
Responsibilities• Manage and grow the 4-H Youth Development program through clubs, after school programs, school enrichment programs, summer fun day camps and traditional 4-H camps.
• Assist the Livestock Agent with the annual Cumberland County Livestock show.
• Seek out sponsor ships, grants, and other funding sources to support activities and programs.
• Ensure the 4-H program is accessible to youth across the county and develop and maintain 4-H clubs, special interest youth programs, and school enrichment programs.
• Recruit, evaluate, train and coordinate adult and teen volunteers.
• Supervise overall 4-H program staff and manage programs funded through grants and fees.
QualificationsEducation
- A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in child or youth development or related field (waived for NCCE Program Associates).
- Or a Bachelor's degree with at least one‑half of coursework completed in a Master’s degree curriculum with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and at least one degree in child or youth development or related field.
- Or a completed Master’s degree in child or youth development or related field.
Experience & Skills
- Experience in grant writing and management (preferred).
- Strong leadership, communication, grantsmanship, public relations, planning, implementation, and evaluation skills.
- Self‑directed with a strong work ethic and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Proficient at working with diverse audiences and able to function effectively in a team and as a subordinate.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; evenings and weekends as required. 40 hours per week.
Other Requirements
Valid North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
