First Year Experience Coordinator.
Full-time
Reporting to the Dean of Student Success, the First-Year Experience (FYE) Coordinator supports academic transition, success, and belonging for first-year and transfer students FYE Coordinator is a member of the Center for Student Success staff, provides coordination for First-Year Experience programming, manages early alert and outreach efforts focused on belonging, oversees transfer initiatives that foster community, assists students with academic issues, and serves as a resource to all students.
Essentialduties and responsibilities include:
- Program Development and Coordination:
Coordinate and implement comprehensive first-year Experience (FYE) programming that supports the academic, cultural, and social needs of first-year and transfer students (e.g., workshops, events, and co-curricular activities across the first year). Ensure the programming aligns with institutional priorities related to student success, equity, and retention. - Develop and coordinate transfer initiatives that promote belonging and successful transition (e.g., transfer welcome events, affinity programming, mentoring, targeted communications).
- Develop initiatives that foster success and belonging for first-generation college students, in collaboration with campus partners and student success staff.
- Collaboration and Community Building:
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student leaders to design and facilitate programs that foster a sense of community and belonging among first-year and transfer students. - Promote a welcoming, inclusive environment that fosters student engagement and connects students to campus resources.
- Actively seek ways to be accessible to students through campus outreach, programming, and one-on-one meetings.
- Serve as a liaison to FYS
100 faculty, working closely with course instructors to align FYE programming, FYS
100 content, and student support resources. - Serve on the new student onboarding committee; assist with planning and implementing new student orientation and welcome week activities to support a smooth transition for incoming students.
- Support student retention efforts and serve on committees related to first-year, transfer, and student success initiatives as assigned.
- Student Support and Outreach:
Coordinate outreach and follow-up for first-year and transfer students who are flagged for concerns related to belonging (e.g., social isolation, campus disengagement, cultural or social adjustment), via the university's retention/alert system. - Maintain student records in accordance with FERPA and institutional policies.
- Assessment, Supervision, and Reporting:
Assess the effectiveness of FYE and transfer initiatives by tracking data such as student participation, program and learning outcomes, and attainment of goals; prepare reports as required. - Select, train, supervise, and evaluate FYE Peer Mentors.
- Teach FYS
295/395/495 peer mentor training course.
- Master's Degree, in Counseling, Education, or related field
- Experience working with undergraduate students in a teaching, advising, or student support capacity.
- Understanding of retention best practices
- Experience designing or facilitating first-year or transition programs that emphasize belonging.
- Experience supporting transfer students or transfer-student initiatives.
- Experience with retention management or early alert system (such as Starfish)
