The Autism Society of North Carolina is hiring a Part Time Program Coordinator to teach, support, and plan activities for young adults with autism and Asperger’s syndrome in the community and within the program center. The Program Coordinator provides informal teaching in a group setting around "adulting" related topics. Schedule:
16 hours per week:
Mondays 11-5pm, Tuesdays 2-7pm, and Thursdays 2-7pm
- Organize and facilitate a variety of educational, social, and recreational group activities for program members with a strong emphasis on health, wellness, and physical exercise.
- Help develop and provide group and individual support and teaching in a variety of community-based activities.
- Provide opportunities for each member of program to shine and develop self-confidence and improve their positive outlook and motivation to continue moving forward through increased exposure to and involvement in a variety of community and in-house activities.
- Assist Director in planning and facilitating educational groups;
Utilize tools and resources including visual supports, video clips of a variety of social situations, modeling and role playing to teach skills. - Work to meet the personal outcomes of individuals and keep appropriate documentation as instructed. Maintain confidentiality of all members. Ensure that services and policies comply with all regulations and requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in developmental disabilities, education, physical fitness, or a related field preferred.
- Experience supporting teens and/or adults with autism.
- Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and required auto liability insurance.
- Based in or near Raleigh and comfortable traveling locally.
- Comfortable presenting, teaching, and engaging groups of program members.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Collaborative, outgoing leader and mentor who helps others feel supported and included.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as program needs arise.
- Therapeutic Recreation certification preferred but not required.
