Primary Purpose of Position
The Extension Agent will provide leadership for field crop and dairy programs in Iredell County, proactively conducting needs assessments and program evaluations to guide future program direction.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide educational programming and technical assistance for all phases of field crop production and pesticide education.
- Conduct on‑farm research work in corn, soybeans, cotton, and wheat.
- Provide educational programming and technical assistance for dairy production, animal waste operator certifications, and youth dairy programming.
- Build and develop relationships with local agricultural producers, private industry stakeholders, and volunteer organizations.
- Determine client needs, evaluate programs regularly, and collaborate with other Extension programs, staff, agencies, and community organizations.
- Network with neighboring agents, university specialists, and local ag producers to plan and implement innovative research test plots and educational field days, and report findings for publication.
- Promote Agriculture within the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in agronomy or a related field. Minimum GPA of 2.5 overall or 3.0 in agriculture (waived for Program Associates).
- Master’s degree with at least 3.0 GPA or completion of at least one-half of Master’s coursework, or a completed Master’s degree in agriculture.
- Experience and knowledge in communications, presentation, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource development.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
- Valid NCDL required within 60 days of hire.
- Travel within the county required; some travel within the state and district may be required.
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with evenings and weekends as required.
