Supplemental Instruction Facilitator - Firelands - Learning Center

To support and enhance the learning experience for students by leading collaborative study sessions or supporting professional tutor-led sessions, reinforcing key concepts, and fostering a deeper understanding of the material.

• Attend all class meetings of the selected course, take notes, do homework, and read all assigned materials.
• Work in tandem with professional tutor as needed in SI sessions.
• Conduct (or facilitate study sessions for professional tutor) each week of the semester using strategies learned from the SI facilitator training.
• Meet with supervisor, cooperating faculty member, and professional tutor as needed.
• Create or assist in creating study aids such as interactive quizzes and review guides.
• Possess familiarity with technology, such as Zoom and interactive quiz platforms.
• Take attendance and create reports of each session.
• Communicate with students and supervisors in a timely, professional manner.
• Meet with Teaching and Learning Center staff at scheduled meetings.
• Demonstrate strong academic habits and serve as a positive role model for peers.
• Maintain an organized office space.
• Assist SI supervisor in training other student SI facilitators.

• Be currently enrolled at BGSU Firelands and meet enrollment requirements for your respective college.
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a grade of "A" or "B" in the selected course.
• Prior enrollment with the professor who is to teach the selected course is preferred.
• Possess strong communication, organizational, interpersonal skills, and content-competency.
• Be committed to helping others succeed academically.
• In-person attendance on Firelands campus required.
