Position Information

The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation is a large, multi-faceted Institute housed in a 33,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility on NC State University's Centennial Campus in Raleigh. Our work encompasses educational research, professional development, policy and program evaluation, and direct services to schools, districts, state departments of education and public- and private sector organizations. We are deeply involved in work in throughout North Carolina, leading some of the major statewide K-12 education initiatives and working closely with the Department of Public Instruction, the State Board of Education, and the majority of school districts in the State on the transition to digital teaching and learning.

The Content Reviewer will serve as the human content reviewer for an independent audit of a student-safety monitoring system: (1) complete rubric and classification-rules training with a 50-item calibration set; (2) rate AI-generated simulated student content in two model-refinement rounds (~400 items each) on outcome, category, realism, and training suitability; (3) review every item used in the audit (~3,850 items plus reserves - all concerning content, all trigger-word false positives, all general content, and all image-bearing items;

no sampling) on a rolling schedule that stays at least two weeks ahead of the audit run (which begins October 2026 - no item is used before it has been reviewed); (4) review ~350 test images (firearm and adult-content severity tiers) ahead of their test windows. Judgments are recorded one row per item in scoring queues prepared by the Friday Institute.

This is a temporary, part-time position with a proposed FTE of 0.25-0.30. The position is expected to begin in October, with the majority of the work occurring through late January and minimal work anticipated thereafter.

Content Reviewer (Temporary-Professional Non Faculty)

Work Schedule:

Flexible and asynchronous. 10-12 hours/week from October through late January (holiday break fully off); engagement concludes February 28, 2027.

Other Work/Responsibilities:
None - the role is limited to the content review described above.

Minimum Experience/

Education:

K-12 district experience that includes directly receiving and managing student-safety alerts (e.g., school counselor, student-services or safety-team member, school administrator).
