High Voltage Electrical Technician Job Overview

Belenus Power Group is seeking an experienced High Voltage / Medium Voltage Electrical Technician to support the maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems at operating power-generation facilities.

This position will work primarily with medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment, substations, transformers, switch gear, circuit breakers, protective relaying, and associated balance-of-plant electrical systems
.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working safely around energized and de-energized HV/MV equipment and is comfortable troubleshooting complex electrical systems using electrical drawings, one-lines, schematics, test equipment, and established maintenance procedures.

Experience with in the power-generation, utility, transmission/distribution, or heavy industrial electrical sectors is strongly preferred.

Experience with
utility-scale photovoltaic, battery energy storage, wind, or other generation technologies is a plus, but solar experience is not required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of HV and MV electrical equipment at operating power-generation facilities.
  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting of power transformers, medium- and high-voltage circuit breakers, switch gear, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, grounding systems, and other substation equipment

  • Assist with troubleshooting and testing of protective relays, protection and control systems, CT/PT circuits, and associated control wiring
    .
  • Read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, and technical manuals
    .
  • Perform electrical diagnostics using appropriate electrical test equipment and established testing procedures.
  • Support planned outages, corrective maintenance, commissioning activities, equipment replacements, and emergency response work as required.
  • Identify equipment deficiencies, abnormal conditions, and potential reliability issues and communicate findings clearly to project management and customers.
  • Complete accurate field documentation, inspection records, test reports, and service documentation.
  • Work in accordance with NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, BPG safety procedures, customer safety programs, LOTO requirements, and applicable electrical standards
    .
  • Coordinate effectively with plant personnel, engineers, OEM representatives, subcontractors, and other field technicians.
  • Travel to customer facilities as required to support BPG projects and service commitments.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience working with medium- and/or high-voltage electrical systems in power generation, substations, utilities, transmission/distribution, industrial facilities, or similar environments.
  • Working knowledge of power transformers and substation electrical equipment
    .
  • Familiarity with protective relaying and electrical protection/control systems
    .
  • Ability to read and understand electrical one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment drawings
    .
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing and diagnostic equipment used in HV/MV maintenance and commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety practices and LOTO procedures
    .
  • Ability to work safely around high-energy electrical equipment and within operational power facilities.
  • Willingness to travel and work planned outages, extended shifts, and occasional emergency-response assignments when required.
  • Experience with utility-scale power generation is preferred.
  • Experience with utility-scale solar PV, BESS, wind, or other renewable generation systems is a plus.
  • NETA, NICET, relay-testing, OEM, electrical licensing, or other relevant technical certifications are a plus but not necessarily required.
