Structural Engineer – Stantec, Raleigh, NC

Responsibilities
  • Engage in development of structural design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and visual formats.
  • Perform design calculations per code and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with the structural team lead for overall project management.
  • Work closely with team leads and engineers on large, complex projects.
  • Provide mentoring and assist in training of structural designers and EITs.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and peer projects.
  • Prepare and revise documentation in various structural phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
  • Utilize BIM technologies to develop 3‑D models of building’s structural systems and provide markups for junior engineers and designers.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to RFIs, prepare site observation reports, and perform contract administration tasks.
  • Assist with proposal development for projects of varying size and complexity.
Qualifications & Capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work in a team; people‑management experience is highly desirable.
  • Requisite knowledge of structural material design codes, standards, and applicable building codes.
  • Working knowledge of steel, concrete, wood, and masonry construction types.
  • Understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of structural systems means, methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas.
  • Ability to review work for accuracy, manage time to meet budget and schedule, and collaborate creatively.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Revit, structural component design software, building analysis software, and finite element analysis tools (e.g., Tekla, Bentley/RAM, RISA‑3D, CSI).
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and a desk; field work may include exposure to elements.
