HEAPY is seeking a Senior Level Mechanical Engineer to join our Colleague First culture in our Raleigh office location within our Education Practice. This position will also travel between Raleigh and Greenville, South Carolina, for client work.

This colleague independently performs a variety of assignments involving the application of standard mechanical design engineering techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project. The incumbent must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. This position requires the colleague to set assignments that have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables.

This position normally requires a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program and typically 6-9 years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience/advanced degree in engineering) related to mechanical engineering systems in the Built Environment. This includes considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated mechanical engineering and design equipment. An incumbent in this position should be in possession of a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certification and be working toward Professional Engineering (PE) Registration.

PE registration would be attained within the first 2 years of attaining this position level.

• Collaborates with more experienced Engineering Colleagues to prepare basic plan details and outlines, cost estimates, and perform calculations in support of broader engineering activities involving the design of mechanical equipment, components, or systems.
• Lays out full plan designs, plan details and outlines, identifies quantities of materials, cost estimates, and performs calculations for a detailed segment of a project.
• Prepares technical specifications for review and approval.
• Evaluates vendors’ bids and drawings to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Reviews and approves mechanical design drawings for assigned segments of project.
