Position SummaryResponsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
- Perform or check design computations
- Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
- Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
- Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
- Attend meetings with clients and assist taking meeting minutes
- Coordinate with other disciplines and understand how they fit into the project and design.
- Quality review of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan.
- Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
- 5-10 years’ experience of Bridge, Culvert and Retaining Wall Design
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Written and communication skills
- Engineer-in-training certification
- North Carolina Professional Engineering License is a plus
- NBIS-compliant Bridge Inspection Team Leader
- 3+ years of bridge inspection experience
- Familiarity with NCDOT bridge inspection procedures and reporting requirements
- Proficient in Micro Station, Bentley Software (OBD, RCPIER and Conspan), ETCulvert and other structural analysis software packages
- Understanding of NCDOT guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
