Responsibilities

RS&H's Transportation-Construction Management Practice serves numerous state departments of transportation, mobility/transportation authorities, turnpike/toll authorities, rail/port authorities, municipal/county governments, and private clients throughout the United States. Our Construction Engineering and Inspections (CEI) teams as well as our Construction Management teams are industry leading experts who provide a full range of construction engineering, program management, specialized testing, and inspection services from the preconstruction phase through maintenance and operations.

By joining our team, you can provide unique expertise in the full life cycle of transportation delivery, and lead the evolution of transportation.

This position will work outside on an active construction site. As part of the construction management team, you'll serve an integral role in the firm by observing the work of contractors to determine the progress and quality of work on construction projects. This position performs highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, including making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.

It is responsible for coordinating and managing junior inspectors; reviewing and interpreting contract documents to determine if the contractor's work is in compliance; maintaining detailed accurate records of the contractor's daily operations and of significant events that affect the work; and performing sampling and field testing of component materials and completed work. This position may also direct, guide, and mentor junior inspectors.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent and seven years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Have experience in construction inspection, including exposure to bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or a degree in civil engineering.
  • Have materials sampling/testing certifications.
  • Have a valid driver's license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a vehicle on the highway and on construction sites.
  • Have a passion for working outside and a tolerance for exposure to the elements.
  • Possess strong organizational, problem‑solving, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Have the ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with others.

  • OSHA 10 Hour
  • NCDOT Certifications and experience
