This full‑time permanent position is located in Plymouth, North Carolina, and seeks a Mechanical Engineer to serve as a Maintenance Engineer at our Pulp Mill.
OverviewThe Maintenance Engineer will report to the Fiberline Maintenance Superintendent and will be responsible for upkeeping and continuously improving all mechanical equipment and systems related to the fluff pulp machine. The role also involves responding to equipment breakdowns and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to enhance operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and continuously improve all mechanical equipment and systems related to the fluff pulp machine.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enhance operational efficiency.
- Preventive and predictive maintenance: develop, implement, and track preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and minimize breakdowns; use predictive maintenance techniques and data from monitoring systems to anticipate failures.
- Troubleshooting and repair: diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in a timely manner.
- Installation and upgrades: recommend and implement upgrades or modifications to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Safety and compliance: ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA and EPA standards; follow company safety procedures such as Lockout/Tagout.
- Record‑keeping: maintain detailed and accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment history, often using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Collaboration:
work with production, operations, and management teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and support projects; communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to find and implement solutions. - Leadership: lead the mechanical maintenance crew of nine mechanics in the absence of the supervisor and oversee contractors.
- Planning: develop job planning and project planning skills to assist with outage planning.
- Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Deep understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to work in challenging environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent computer skills with computer‑based maintenance software such as SAP, MS Office and scheduling software.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Preferred: 1–4 years of experience working in an industrial mill as a Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer.
- Experience on projects with an operating company or engineering firm as part of a team is considered an asset.
- Experience in construction management and/or maintenance experience in an industrial/process plant environment.
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization, including the management committee and senior leaders.
