Engineering Technician III (S)

Responsibilities- Complete technical engineering work and support other engineers in construction, materials testing, design, surveys, and program/regulatory compliance.
- Inspect for compliance and/or code; collect and analyze field data.
- Test materials; review, modify, and/or design plans; analyze engineering related data, products, and/or functions.
- Potentially function in a full supervisory role, supervising direct reports and performing administrative functions.
- Serve as survey crew leader, independently directing activities of survey crew members in collecting field data on complex surveys.
- Apply the Department’s safety program to all operations; work safely in an outside environment with exposure to construction‑site hazards including traffic, heights, weather extremes, uneven terrain, and emergency situations.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Customer service experience related to resolving problems involving explanation of complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Proficiency using computers and electronic tablets for record keeping of field data.
- General knowledge of surveying methods and procedures is preferred.
- Physical ability to walk, climb, kneel, and stand; safety toe shoes required.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle preferred.
- Offer of employment contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post‑offer employment evaluation.
Grade NC11 – $45,431 to $79,504 per year.
