Overview
The Manager, Facilities Operations Engineering Commissioning is responsible for overseeing commissioning, continuous improvement, and developmental support for sites in a geographic region. The role includes commissioning‑related engineering tasks such as coordinating, installing, and integrating connectivity, network infrastructure, security, life safety, building subsystems and finishes, electrical and mechanical equipment, data center power systems, and building automation.
Responsibilities- Manage the commissioning team(s) in the assigned region, develop capabilities, and engage employees.
- Follow operating and commissioning standards to ensure quality, safety, and ongoing operation.
- Oversee travel budgets and ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements.
- Assist in site construction activity and installations, coordinating with project departments and external construction resources to meet design, installation, and testing standards.
- Direct commissioning engineers to witness testing of all equipment, validate operation sequences, and obtain complete operational documentation.
- Help revise comprehensive commissioning plans for Level 1‑5 systems, covering connectivity, network, security, life safety, mechanical, electrical, and building automation components.
- Identify, track, and resolve commissioning issues, working closely with project teams to overcome technical challenges.
- Utilize findings to provide feedback to program management, driving continuous improvement.
- Work with all site teams on SOPs, MNOPs, ERP, and formal change‑management processes.
- Develop metrics to evaluate team performance and provide feedback to QTS.
- Lead teams in quality improvement, standard compliance, vendor oversight, completions, and turnover.
- Introduce innovation into facilities programs and systems with an environmentally conscious mindset.
- Maintain positive relationships with staff and executive‑level management.
- Assist site engineering/management with compliance with OSHA and other local/national codes.
- Ensure proper training and growth of staff.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, critical power certifications, or equivalent professional experience.
- Five or more years of direct experience with engineering‑related activities in critical or technical environments (data center, nuclear/electric power, hospital, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, industrial/commercial field engineering).
- Ten or more years of direct experience with engineering‑related activities in critical or technical environments.
- Five or more years of data center engineering, commissioning, project management, or equivalent.
- Three or more years of management or supervisory experience overseeing engineering or critical operations managers.
- Fluent in data center critical and construction environments, with a strong working knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment, systems, and design.
- Ability to develop solutions and create technical strategic and tactical plans for complex projects.
- Creativity, innovative thinking, and a willingness to find outside‑the‑box solutions to improve quality, reliability, and operating costs.
- Deep understanding of uninterruptible power sources, diesel generators, electrical switch gear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, static transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, and air economizers.
- Experience with emergency backup systems (generators, UPS, battery backup).
- Knowledge of building monitoring/controls, medium/low voltage distribution, mechanical systems, telecommunications, access controls, CCTV, and life safety systems.
- Experience with project management and commissioning management software.
- Ability to lead multiple commissioning teams at various stages of commissioning.
