Power Engineer (Full Time, Contract;Hybrid in Raleigh, NC - 3x onsite + light travel)
Optomi, in partnership with one of our clients, is seeking a Power Engineer to support the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of critical AC and DC power infrastructure supporting communications and network systems. This role is focused on engineering and delivering reliable power solutions, including DC plant systems, UPS systems, rectifiers, battery monitoring solutions, grounding systems, and backup power infrastructure. The engineer will be responsible for assessing existing facilities, determining power capacity requirements, developing engineering packages and technical documentation, and supporting both greenfield deployments and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
Additional responsibilities include evaluating sites for new equipment installations, identifying power‑related gaps, coordinating with electricians, vendors, and field teams, and providing technical guidance throughout project execution. The ideal candidate brings experience supporting AC/DC power systems, DC plant infrastructure, UPS systems, rectifiers, batteries, and backup power solutions within utility, telecommunications, industrial, manufacturing, data center, or other critical infrastructure environments.
5–10% travel, primarily local site visits throughout Raleigh, Eastern North Carolina, and Northeast South Carolina
Responsibilities:- Design, engineer, and deliver AC and DC power solutions supporting critical communications and network infrastructure
- Assess existing site power capacity and determine required upgrades, remediation efforts, or new power requirements
- Develop engineering job packages including equipment lists, drawings, installation instructions, and supporting documentation
- Lead greenfield power deployments and support new site builds, infrastructure expansions, and modernization initiatives
- Manage lifecycle replacement projects involving batteries, UPS systems, rectifiers, and DC plant equipment
- Prepare cost estimates, work orders, and technical recommendations to support power‑related projects and upgrades
- Provide technical guidance and coordination with operations teams, electricians, installation personnel, and vendors throughout project execution
- Experience engineering and delivering AC and DC power solutions, including 48V DC and 130V DC power systems
- Strong hands‑on experience with DC plant systems, including rectifiers, batteries, battery monitoring solutions, and fuse panels
- Experience designing, implementing, and supporting UPS systems and backup power solutions
- Ability to evaluate existing sites, identify power capacity gaps, and determine required upgrades to support new equipment deployments
- Experience preparing engineering job packages, drawings, equipment lists, cost estimates, and implementation documentation
- Background supporting utility, telecommunications, industrial, manufacturing, data center, or other critical infrastructure environments
- Experience working closely with electricians, vendors, installation teams, and operations personnel to successfully deliver power‑related projects and upgrades
