Position Overview
Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a Nuclear Weapons Effects Modeling & Simulation Engineer/Scientist to support engineering and physics-based modeling and simulation of physical phenomena within a 3D geometric modeling environment linked to a GIS. The role involves developing engineering and physics-based methodologies, analytical algorithms, and software tools to strengthen national security.
Key Responsibilities- Develop or integrate a wide variety of models into modeling and simulation software.
- Perform verification and validation to ensure realistic results.
- Apply machine learning and traditional physical modeling approaches to solve critical problems.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and continuously learn new areas.
- Document solutions and communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- B.S. in Science or Engineering with 5–7 years of experience, M.S. with 3–5 years, or Ph.D. with 0–2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong interest in and ability to develop modeling and simulation software in high-level languages (C++, Python, Java, etc.).
- Desire to work in a dynamic team environment.
- Experience in DoD modeling and simulation technology, structural dynamics, nuclear weapon effects, ground shock environments, geotechnical characterization, and/or probabilistic analysis.
- Familiarity with software design patterns, modern C++, and agile software development practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The nature of work requires eligibility to apply for and hold a U.S. security clearance. Selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment.
Work Location and ScheduleOffice work required 3 days a week in Raleigh, NC.
