Senior Process Engineer - Industrial Water

Stantec's growing Process & Industrial Water practice is seeking a highly motivated Senior Process Engineer with heavy industrial/power process, application and operations experience to support project proposal and application processes throughout the US and Canada. The role involves network building, technical project execution, and business development initiatives, leading process evaluation and design efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Perform business development/application tasks and collaborate with staff to increase project wins and develop long‑lasting client relationships.
- Participate in business line teams to manage and develop proposals.
- Client‑facing for business development contact, meetings, and presentations.
- Prepare scope of work documents and estimates.
- Develop division of responsibility (DOR) matrices.
- Collaborate with multiple business lines to develop opportunities.
- Conduct quality reviews.
- Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned water, power and industrial process and wastewater‑related projects through collaboration with technical disciplines.
- Prepare design basis documents.
- Conduct engineering calculations including mass and energy balances.
- Develop engineering drawings.
- Prepare engineering reports.
- Conduct feasibility studies.
- Present to clients, regulatory agencies and/or project stakeholders.
- Perform quality reviews.
- Engage in design development through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and visual formats.
- Assist project managers with scope, budget, staffing, and schedule management.
- Lead coordination of project construction specifications.
- Coordinate quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects; facilitate independent technical review by others.
- Review contractor/vendor submittals for adherence to contract documents and industry standards.
- Participate in permitting processes, meeting with stakeholders and regulators.
- Coordinate regulatory review to seek final approval.
- Assist in developing and updating project design standards and guidelines; prepare abstracts and technical papers.
- Manage a team of design professionals and technicians.
- Mentor and supervise staff and develop high‑performing project teams.
- Assist with business development pursuits including proposal preparation and participation in interviews.
- Interact with clients and management regarding status of project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Apply and share design expertise.
- Lead preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
- Research regulatory and other drivers impacting projects.
- Ensure that project needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Possess a hard‑working and positive attitude.
- Perform mass & energy balance and hydraulic calculations.
- Quickly assess industrial process for core plant functions.
- Knowledge of coal combustion, coal power, gas turbine power plant generation processes, and related emissions control systems.
- Develop piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and process control narratives.
- Translate industrial process into clear diagrams.
- Understand all phases of project document production, client procurement procedures, and regulatory approval processes.
- Engage in project team settings and contribute creative and critical thought.
- Effectively discuss project issues with clients, contractors, suppliers, funding agencies, and reviewing agencies; deliver technical presentations at conferences and technical symposia.
- Possess excellent time‑management skills and a thorough understanding of task assignment, scheduling, budgeting, and efficient use of resources.
- Understand local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal, and design requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe; experience with Fathom, Arrow, ASPEN.
- PE license required.
