Summary
Theoris is assisting our client in their search for a Senior Lead Engineer to support the integration of utility-scale renewable energy resources into the electric grid. This position will work with a team of engineers providing consulting, engineering analysis, and commissioning services for transmission-connected Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs), including solar, wind, and energy storage systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the electric power industry, including transmission and distribution systems, generator interconnection, and renewable energy technologies. This role requires both technical expertise and the ability to collaborate effectively with utility clients, renewable energy developers, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct facility reviews and site assessments to identify opportunities for improvements in performance, quality, and compliance with established standards.
- Evaluate the design, construction, and operation of renewable energy facilities and related technologies.
- Perform quality control reviews, recommend solutions, and develop corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues at inverter-based resource facilities.
- Conduct engineering analyses and communicate findings to customers and stakeholders.
- Support deployment and commissioning of new technologies in the field.
- Develop and enhance engineering analysis tools and methodologies.
- Prepare technical reports documenting analyses, testing results, and corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver technical presentations, workshops, and training sessions.
- Support applied research initiatives and development of new products and services.
- Collect and analyze field and laboratory data to support engineering studies.
- Maintain and expand technical expertise through industry training, professional organizations, and continuing education.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry developments.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Recommend process improvements related to workflows, data collection, and analysis techniques.
- Communicate technical information effectively with clients and project stakeholders.
- Solve complex engineering challenges while supporting customer needs and project objectives.
- Participate in and lead project teams.
- Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Coordinate technical activities and project deliverables.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Review and recommend engineering designs and process improvements.
- Direct engineering projects and technical teams.
- Approve and recommend product and process design changes.
- Approve technical papers, presentations, and client-facing deliverables.
- Lead development and implementation of departmental policies and standards.
- Make purchasing decisions related to materials and services
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Support business development efforts with existing and prospective clients.
- Evaluate technical service requests and develop project recommendations.
- Consult with clients regarding project requirements and specifications.
- Review and recommend proposals, contracts, and cost estimates.
- Present technical findings, reports, and recommendations to clients.
- Prepare technical papers and presentations showcasing organizational capabilities.
- Support financial management, strategic planning, and operational activities within the engineering team.
- Communicate project results and technical findings to management and stakeholders.
- Assist in developing engineering policies, standards, and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in:
- Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs)
- Generator Interconnection
- Transmission Systems
- Distribution Systems
- Renewable Energy Engineering
- Related power systems engineering disciplines
- Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or other relevant certifications.
- Industry certifications such as:
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- NABCEP Certification
- Other relevant technical certifications
- Knowledge of planning, design, interconnection, construction, and commissioning of utility-scale:
- Solar Energy Facilities
- Wind Energy Facilities
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Experience with transmission and/or distribution grid modeling.
- Familiarity with:
- National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
- IEEE
- IEEE
- NERC Reliability Standards and Guidelines
