Manager, Power Systems Modeling

Theoris is assisting our client in their search for a Power Systems Modeling Manager. This position requires advanced power system modeling and people management experience. Build and manage an engineering team focused on providing advanced power system modeling services to Inverter Based Resources (IBRs) and Large Loads (data centers).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform supervisory responsibilities associated with the modeling team. May have direct and indirect reports.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources (HR) and Senior Engineering Manager in workforce planning, including the hiring, onboarding, and termination of positions.
  • In collaboration with Senior Engineering Manager, develop operational plans for the modeling team and hold accountability for effectively and efficiently executing operational objectives.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for power system modeling.
  • Provide recommendations for financial management of the modeling team.
  • Approve the purchase of materials and/or services and other expenditures.
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand to assess the feasibility of projects and make recommendations to Senior Engineering Manager.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Ensure the team and the project teams adhere to project scope, timeline and budget.
  • Serve as a technical lead as needed for power system modeling deliverables

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in power systems modeling, inverter-based resources, generator interconnection, transmission or distribution systems
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Professional Engineering license or the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license required
  • Expertise in developing models and model validation in PSS®E, PSCAD or other modeling tools
  • Expertise in NERC compliance simulations (PRC-029-1 and MOD-026-2) and studies (power flow, reactive power, stability, harmonic, ride-through, fault or other) preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, practices, programs, and power systems modeling software
  • Ability to manage team for results and development of staff
  • Ability to develop and adhere to project budgets
  • Ability to work in teams as well as independently
  • Valid Driver's License required. Some projects may require occasional travel for periods up to a week.
