What We’re Looking For
HNTB’s Raleigh, NC office is seeking a Roadway Engineer III to join our roadway design team. Our team is currently working on some of the most complex projects in North Carolina for NCDOT. We are dedicated to enhancing our communities, solving infrastructure challenges for our clients, and increasing transit and pedestrian/bicycle mobility.
As a Roadway Engineer III, you will be responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects. This position works closely with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery. You will apply engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity, leverage technical knowledge and client relationships to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs, develop conceptual and detailed designs and calculations using current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software, and may mentor, train, and review the work of junior engineer staff, providing constructive feedback.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Complete assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
- Assist in the development of project specifications.
- Responsible for the development of discipline‑specific engineering project elements and deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
- Aid in the coordination and productivity of project team members.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.
- Work closely with other disciplines on multi‑discipline projects.
- Perform quality control reviews of discipline‑specific engineering project elements and deliverables.
- Assist with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within the discipline.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience.
- PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience.
- Optimizing work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Independently progressing the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and Micro Station and/or AutoCAD.
- Deep understanding of the application of engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles.
- Managing time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Experience with Open Roads Designer.
- Familiarity with NCDOT standards and design manuals.
