Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) District seeks a Senior Roadway Engineer for our growing Design Engineering Services (DES) Group, based in Westlake, TX or Raleigh, NC. The role involves leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing complex highway and civil design projects from concept through construction.

We integrate design and construction through collaboration across Design Engineering, Design Management, Estimating, and Project Controls. Our focus on deliverable‑oriented teams emphasizes safety, cost control, and schedule efficiency.
LocationThis role is site‑based in either the Raleigh, NC or Westlake, TX office, requiring up to 25% travel. Remote work is not supported.
Responsibilities- Lead highway and civil design teams for major complex projects as Engineer of Record or Project Lead.
- Provide oversight and direction to the design team.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate mid‑level and junior staff.
- Promote staff development through training, mentoring, and career planning.
- Oversee or create surface models using Open Roads Designer, InRoads, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or equivalent software.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary design to ensure integration across project elements.
- Develop preliminary design concepts and alternatives for highways and civil features to support cost estimating.
- Prepare and attend technical meetings, coordinate design resolution, and implement QA/QC procedures.
- Prepare and implement quality management plans and lead quality control reviews.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget for the roadway design team.
- Execute final design of elements such as roadway geometrics, signing and marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, wall plans, and final Released for Construction (RFC) plans.
- Lead project and department‑level meetings.
- Interface with project stakeholders as needed.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required.
- Registered Professional Engineer required.
- 15+ years of civil / highway design experience required.
- Experience leading and mentoring junior staff.
- Experience leading design teams.
- Experience with design‑build/alternative delivery.
- Expert knowledge of AASHTO, A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, USDOT/FHWA, MUTCD for Streets and Highways, and AASHTO Roadside Design Guide.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk and/or Bentley CAD platforms preferred.
- Experience with AI agents and tools preferred.
- Work productively and meet deadlines.
- Communicate and interact professionally with supervisors, employees, and stakeholders.
- Perform work safely, following all instructions and safety protocols.
- Work normal operating hours and be available for overtime and weekends as required.
- Ability to work at various locations and conditions may vary.
