Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing survey vendor contracts (Land Surveying Coordinator) to provide quality land surveying services in a safe and cost-effective manner. Responsibilities include developing project scope, estimating costs, requesting quotes, data entry into the work management tool, monitoring contractors, processing invoices, reviewing and performing quality checks on deliverables, delivering finished products to the customer or requester, and closing out projects in the work management tool.

The role requires a broad understanding of land survey concepts and the use of regional professional service providers to meet customer demands. This individual will also act as a problem solver for customers and employees, applying new technology to improve quality and manage project cost, while supporting company goals, policies, and procedures and representing the company professionally.

Location

The preferred location is Raleigh, NC or Wilmington, NC; however, this position can be located at any Duke Energy location in eastern NC with a vacancy. The exact location will be determined at the time of offer based on business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Safely oversee contractor staff and outside consultants responsible for surveys, including transmission lines, distribution lines, gas lines, dam deformations, construction staking, land acquisitions and disposals of enterprise assets for a designated region.
  • Provide leadership to contracted survey crews by setting an example for professionalism, customer service, and honest communications.
  • Promote good teammate relations, participate in the resolution of team problems and concerns, and recommend employee training and development.
  • Interweave internal resources and external contractors into a seamless service.
  • Serve as a representative of Land Services to monitor, inspect and review survey work performed by contractors for compliance with technical specifications, schedules, and budgets, and recommend approval of deliverables.
  • Direct multiple survey vendors, solve complex problems involving conflicting data, and ensure the quality of deliverables.
  • Maintain and provide management with regular progress reports on survey projects, noting contractor performance, and provide feedback to reinforce good results or suggest corrective actions.
  • Thoroughly inspect and check deliverables for accuracy and correctness, including field work, maps, and electronic files.
  • Attend project meetings and obtain detailed cost estimates and agreed delivery due dates from all vendors.
  • Monitor contractors to ensure cost, time frames, and performance remain within Master Service Agreements and project control requirements.
  • Review invoices submitted by vendors, recommend payment based on performance, and advise management of anticipated cost overruns relative to estimates.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel and groups.
  • Mediates and coordinates the resolution of problems between company departments in the acquisition and disposition of real estate.
  • Work with and maintain relationships with vendors and governmental agencies as needed to acquire or resolve issues.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and creativity in resolving a variety of engineering/technical analysis problems, applying technical skills and determining root cause.
  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance with internal staff and contract survey vendors, and provide necessary training.
  • Participate in professional organizations and associations (e.g., State Society of Surveyors, IRWA, etc.).
  • Stay abreast of all laws and governmental regulations affecting land surveying.
Basic/Required Qualifications (Land Surveying Coordinator)
  • Associate’s degree in Surveying and Topography or a related field and 2+ years of related work experience OR
  • High school/GED degree and 4+ years of related work experience.

  • Associate’s degree in Surveying and Topography or a related field and 5+ years of related work experience OR
