Roadway Design Engineer – Project Manager (Raleigh, NC)

$95,000 – $185,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Essential Functions- Responsible for scope, fees, and the profitability of individual projects as well as a portfolio of projects.
- Point person and firm’s contact with clients while functioning as project manager.
- Assists in new sales with clients for which they are managing projects.
- Guides and coordinates all internal LJB transportation disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients.
- Has a basic understanding of what the other transportation disciplines do and what they require as part of specific projects.
- Responsible for the nine knowledge areas, according to the Project Management Institute (PMI), associated with each phase of the project they are managing:
- Project Integration Management
- Project Scope Management
- Project Time Management
- Project Cost Management
- Project Quality Management
- Project Human Resource Management
- Project Communications Management
- Project Risk Management
- Project Procurement Management
- Responsible for assisting the Deputy Operations Manager in maintaining PM best practices.
- On larger projects, PM may or may not be involved directly in the design.
- Apprise Deputy Operations Manager of employee performance on particular projects.
- Provide information to Deputy Operations Manager on future projects so they can manage staffing.
- Assist in informal development of other employees.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- P.E. license required;
North Carolina PE preferred. Successful candidates will be expected to obtain their NC PE within the first year of hire. - At least 10 years of experience in consulting or engineering.
- Experience working on DOT design projects is required; experience with multiple DOTs is a plus.
- 5 years of project management experience is preferred.
- Deltek Vantagepoint or similar CRM and Project Management software experience.
- Micro Station, Open Roads, AutoCAD, and Civil‑3D software experience.
- Client Relationship Management and Business Development Support
- Leadership, Mentorship, and Cross‑Functional Team Collaboration
- Excellent communication and time management skills
