Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics to join our team at our Raleigh, NC site location. This role is open to relocation and will report to the site on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 remote). Sponsorship is offered for candidates located in the United States.
As an Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics you will support the product development and design of our high‑power three‑phase UPS, energy storage, and medium‑voltage product lines. The role includes all aspects of the product design life cycle from concept to production as part of a global, dynamic, multi‑disciplinary team.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $94,000 – $138,000. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
What you’ll do- Successfully develop new products from concept to production that meet customer requirements and Eaton safety, quality, reliability, cost, and schedule commitments.
- Work with global cross‑functional engineering teams to design and develop new products, which may include three‑phase 480V UPS, 1MW and larger energy storage systems, or solid state transformer (SST) products for maintaining critical loads such as datacenters and hospitals.
- Create and maintain functional specifications aligned with customer and product management requirements.
- Review data and simulate power electronics, analog, logical, and digital circuits, including transient and state machine change analyses. Drive technical excellence and rigor through simulations and Design for Six Sigma concepts.
- Collaborate with the electrical lead in product development projects and be accountable for meeting cost, product performance, and schedule goals for areas of responsibility.
- Interface with vendors on component technical issues, including data sheet clarification, component performance, and design solutions.
- Support product DVT and validation testing in the lab with a team of engineers and technicians.
- Support prototype build, testing, and delivery of products to the customer.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum three (3) years of work experience with power electronics, including activities such as design, review, testing, validation, troubleshooting, or wiring of power electronic systems.
- OR a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of one (1) year of work experience with power electronics, including activities such as design, review, testing, validation, troubleshooting, or wiring of power electronic systems.
- Experience with inverter design and knowledge of battery systems and protective devices, including power distribution.
- Knowledge of three‑phase power systems, power electronics utility interface, and power conversion topologies.
- Understanding of power electronic controls and the impact on system design.
- Experience with Design for Six Sigma tools.
- Experience interacting with global teams.
- Experience in the development of medium voltage power conversion equipment.
- Understanding of magnetics design for high‑frequency power electronics.
- Ability to simulate, analyze, troubleshoot using HIL systems.
- Competence with MATLAB/Simulink/PLECS and PSPICE.
- Analysis and simulation of power electronics systems from board level to complex products.
- Familiarity with schematic entry and PCB design tools like Altium, Cadence, etc.
- Understanding of layout design principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communications.
- Self‑motivated, self‑managed, team‑oriented, proactive, attentive to detail, task‑oriented, and able to overcome obstacles to meet schedule requirements.
- Familiarity with common tools and methods to work in a high‑power lab (480V) environment, oscilloscope, power analyzers and meters.
- Work in a lab environment around high voltage where safety awareness is critical.
