Overview

Water Resources Project Engineer role at KCI Technologies, Inc., an employee‑owned engineering, consulting and construction firm serving clients throughout the United States.

Responsibilities include leading and overseeing engineering projects in the water resources sector, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget adherence, and maintaining client satisfaction through technical leadership and collaboration with project teams.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other
  • Prepare, design and review engineering construction plans, drawings, and specifications for water resources projects, including drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, flood mitigation, stabilization, and restoration.
  • Develop hydrologic and hydraulic studies for floodplain analysis, drainage improvements, climate resiliency, flooding, dam breach analysis, stabilization, and restoration.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to gather information and ensure project compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Design and prepare deliverables for multiple water resources projects, ensuring timely and budget-conscious completion.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams to obtain information, permits, approvals, and clearances for project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support staff; perform quality control review of delegated work.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and engineering techniques and technologies.
  • Communicate and collaborate with clients, team members, and stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Utilize strong organizational and scheduling skills to track project progress and deliverables, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Foster and maintain positive client relationships to ensure client satisfaction and potential future collaboration.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate and direct projects or engineering programs; supervise teams; conduct problem solving and research; assist in proposals, negotiations, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments for client relationship development and coordinate with other practices and sub‑consultants.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance; act as task manager on select projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering or related field.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and HEC‑RAS preferred.
  • Experience with Micro Station and/or Civil 3D AutoCAD preferred.
  • Experience with InRoads and/or Open Roads preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing engineering plans, reports, design standards, permitting and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex engineering concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational abilities with a track record of managing multiple projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid office/remote environment and independently with minimal supervision.
Project Management and Leadership
  • Plan, develop, coordinate and direct projects or engineering programs.
  • Design and prepare deliverables for multiple projects within defined timelines and budgets.
  • Supervise subordinate supervisors or team leaders and conduct research in complex areas.
  • Serve as a staff specialist applying advanced theories and concepts.
  • Assist in proposals, negotiations, and presentations; collaborate with internal departments for client relationship development.
  • Manage work routines, assign activities, attend project team meetings, and provide task performance reports.
  • Coordinate with other practices and sub‑consultants; provide technical oversight and guidance.
  • Serve as task manager for select projects.
Training, Development, and Compliance
  • Mentor and train staff; comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
  • Ensure projects comply with ISO standards.
