Engineering Reliability Specialist
Eaton's ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking an Engineering Reliability Specialist. This is a hybrid role that will take place out of our facility in Raleigh, NC. We are able to offer relocation assistance for qualified candidates residing in the United States. This role is subject to up to 20% travel annually.
The Engineering Reliability Specialist is responsible for improving the reliability and performance of CPS product lines. This role leads reliability strategies across product design, manufacturing, and field performance to improve robustness, reduce failures, and enhance overall system effectiveness. You will develop and implement a strategy to deploy an effective Six Sigma and New Product Development program to achieve a robust continuous improvement and problem solving process to drive results.
This role provides direct support for the DFSS / Reliability Engineering program within the organization by leading and collaborating with Black Belts including mentoring Green Belts in the functions of engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing to achieve desired business results through strategic projects, including PROLaunch. You are accountable for delivering functional performance results at the organization level of measurement to improve global competitiveness and customer satisfaction through related PROLaunch/DFSS strategies and projects.
You will be expected to support work efforts in the Components organization as work loads or expertise demands.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $113000 - $165000 a year. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
What You'll Do:- Develop and lead comprehensive system reliability and safety program plans. Track and report progress on program deliverables and develop recommendations for program gate review decisions.
- Lead Design for Reliability (DfR) initiatives for electrical distribution and control systems. Quantify system reliability and safety requirements based on customer wants/needs, and competitive benchmarking information. Allocate reliability and safety requirements to subsystems and components.
- Build system-level reliability models based on system architecture and assessments of component reliability. Define and manage a system reliability growth plan, leveraging design analysis methods and test methods.
- Supports championing the DFSS Program including Robust Products and Processes within the organization and ensures alignment with Eaton corporate and sector initiatives and processes. This includes overseeing PROLaunch/DFSS projects as well as Black / Green Belt resource deployment across divisions and sites within the organization.
- Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams using A3 and 8D methodologies, ensuring rigorous problem definition, containment, root cause validation, and corrective action development. Drive implementation of permanent corrective and preventive actions, including validation of effectiveness and standardization to prevent recurrence across products, processes, and suppliers.
- Analyze warranty and field failure data to identify trends and systemic issues. Establish and manage reliability metrics (MTBF, MTTR, failure rates, OEE impact).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain to drive reliability improvements.
- Present reliability program status to internal and external customers.
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Statistics, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a technical role.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in advanced (R&D) engineering or new product development programs.
- Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Greenbelt certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Blackbelt certification.
- Knowledge of IEEE , Functional Systems Safety (Certification preferred)
- Knowledge of UL/IEC standards (UL1778/UL60950-1, UL 9540, IEC 62040-1,2 &
3). - Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or Lean/Six Sigma certification
- Knowledge of power electronics, power distribution systems, and power protection systems.
- Applied Statistical tools knowledge (DoE, Weibull, Minitab)
- Demonstrated problem solving skills (8D, RedX, DMAIC Six Sigma)
- Experience working in the Reliability or Quality department within an engineering design and manufacturing company.
- Experience with power utility and/or with high power equipment at 480
