Overview
HDR is an employee-owned company valuing inclusion and collaboration. We seek a Rail Bridge EIT/Designer to contribute to HDR's freight rail program and build the transportation career of our global team.
The freight rail network supports the movement of goods and people. You will work on projects ranging from traditional railroad structures to complex facilities, delivering critical infrastructure that matters.
Primary Responsibilities- Apply structural engineering techniques and procedures related to the design of bridges, structures, retaining walls and supporting facilities for freight railroad clients
- Under the guidance of a Professional Engineer, assist in checking drawings and calculations, developing material lists, calculating quantities, and reviewing construction submittals using structural design software
- Participate in rail bridges and structures assessments
- Assist with development of project deliverables, including calculations, design plans, cost estimates, specifications, and feasibility reports
- Engage with the railroad field and professionals to gain experience in the industry
- Collaborate with Project Engineers and Managers to gain the experience needed to pursue a professional engineering license
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field
- EIT or ability to obtain EIT certification; candidates hired without EIT hold the title of "Rail Bridge Designer" until certification is obtained
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, CAD, and design software for layout and design
- Intern or professional experience in transportation-related civil design (e.g., roadway, railroads or transit, or other linear corridor design)
- Interest in the freight railroad industry
- Strong understanding and experience with engineering software packages
- Local candidates with ability to periodically travel to field assignments or project walkthroughs
- Bachelor's degree
- Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and knowledge of engineering software packages such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-Multi Pier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, sp Column, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge
- Bently Open Bridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infra Works and Civil3D
- Strong understanding and hands-on use of computers for structural layout and design
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Active participation in HDR s employee-owned culture
