Position Summary
A. Morton Thomas & Associates, Inc. (AMT) is an ENR 500 A/E firm.
Transportation Engineer with at least 4 years of relevant experience is needed to join the transportation team in our Raleigh, NC office. The role will support a variety of projects involving data collection, existing condition and alternative analysis, development of horizontal and vertical alignments, cross‑section and superelevation design, roadside barrier design, ADA curb ramp design, roadway modeling, and MOT/traffic plans. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits, with hybrid work (3 days in office, flexible remote).
Support a variety of transportation projects, including:
- Collection of data and existing condition assessments
- Analysis of alternatives for engineering reports
- Development of horizontal and vertical alignments
- Cross‑section and superelevation design
- Roadside barrier and ADA curb ramp design
- Roadway modeling and MOT/traffic related plans
- BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
- North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred
- Knowledge of civil engineering design concepts
- Experience performing design for roadway transportation projects, including cost estimating, specifications, and highway plans for construction bid packages
- Experience with transportation design standards
- Experience with Microstation and Open Roads Designer (ORD)
- Prior work experience with NCDOT required; experience with municipalities and other state DOTs a plus
- Additional experience (ORD intersection and roadway corridor modeling; AutoCAD and/or Civil3D; GIS such as ArcGIS or Google Earth; SignCAD, Auto Turn) a plus
- Completion of various NCDOT prequalification courses a plus
- Proficiency with MS Office products including Word and Excel
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co‑workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members
