A Biomedical Mechanical Engineering Intern assists with designing, testing, and improving medical devices by applying mechanical principles, using CAD software, building prototypes, analyzing data from experiments, ensuring regulatory compliance (FDA/GMP), and supporting R&D teams, offering hands-on experience in blending healthcare needs with mechanical engineering solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Development:
    Help design and modify medical devices, instruments, or equipment using CAD software and mathematical models, focusing on mechanical aspects.
  • Prototyping:
    Build, test, and evaluate prototypes, troubleshooting design issues for functionality and feasibility.
  • Testing & Validation:
    Conduct experiments, analyze test data, and help develop test methods to ensure product safety and effectiveness.
  • Research:
    Support research into biological systems and clinical problems, gathering information through studies and data analysis.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Learn about and assist with adhering to quality standards (like GMP) and regulatory requirements for medical devices.
  • Technical Support:
    Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting biomedical equipment in clinical or lab settings.
  • Collaboration:

    Work with senior engineers, scientists, and clinical staff to develop innovative solutions.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering (or related) program, ideally with biomedical coursework.
    • Proficiency in CAD software (Solid Works, AutoCAD) and data analysis tools.
    • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
    • Understanding of mechanical principles and how they apply to biological systems.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

    Education Requirements:

    • Rising junior/senior or recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate program in Business, Marketing, or a related field
