POSITION

OVERVIEW

Uviquity is seeking a hands-on Optical Test Technician to execute the optical and electro-optical measurements that generate the core device data for our deep-UV light engine program. This position will focus on operating benchtop test stations to characterize diode lasers, integrated photonic devices, and fully packaged deep-UV light engines at the module and system level. You will work closely with characterization team engineers to understand and execute designated test plans.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on "doer" who can execute detailed measurement procedures with minimal oversight, maintain consistent data quality and work well as part of a team. This will require a candidate with strong attention to detail, communication, documentation, and problem-solving abilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Handle, mount, and inspect photonic chips, maintaining cleanliness of facets and optical surfaces
  • Align and operate custom free-space test stations, including beam steering, focusing, polarization control, and coupling of blue pump light into and out of AlN waveguide chips
  • Characterize waveguide propagation loss, second harmonic generation UV output, diode laser LIV, spectral and mode profile performance, and fully packaged deep-UV light engines
  • Execute test plans at volume and turn measurement campaigns around on schedule, learning new tools and capabilities as they are developed
  • Run established data acquisition and analysis scripts, perform first-pass review of results, and flag anomalies and bugs to the engineering team
  • Maintain rigorous data hygiene — consistent file naming, complete metadata, accurate run logs, correct units — and author standard operating procedures and work instructions for recurring measurements
  • Keep test systems measurement-ready through routine re-alignment and bench maintenance, and troubleshoot systematically to distinguish real device behavior from measurement artifacts such as drift, misalignment, electrical noise, or faulty connections
  • Assist with assembly and modification of sample fixtures, optical mounts, cabling, and detector wiring, and promote a safe work environment and employee ownership of quality
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in photonics, laser technology, electronics, or a related field, and 3+ years of relevant hands‑on laboratory or industry experience. Significant relevant experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to align free‑space optical systems on an optical table or breadboard, and to keep them aligned over extended test campaigns.
  • Ability to carefully handle small, sensitive parts in a lab environment, including extended work under a microscope.
  • Precise, repeatable execution of measurement protocols, with excellent documentation habits.
  • Working knowledge of Class 3B/4 laser safety practices, with willingness to train on UV‑specific hazards.
  • General computer proficiency, including confident navigation of a Windows environment, disciplined file and folder management, and the ability to run established data acquisition and analysis scripts as instructed.
  • Strong communication skills, flexibility, and ability to work well in a dynamic, multi‑disciplinary environment.
