This role serves as a Lead Electrical Engineering Technician within the Advanced Power Generation sector, focusing on the design and delivery of complex power generation facilities. You will work in a Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams to produce high-quality 2D and 3D electrical design deliverables. The position requires advanced expertise in electrical design, particularly using Bentley Micro Station and related tools, to support critical infrastructure projects for modern and future power systems.

Responsibilities
  • Function in a lead technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisory role on advanced power generation projects.
  • Apply advanced technical expertise to solve complex electrical design challenges within the power generation discipline.
  • Develop, create, and modify detailed electrical design drawings and models, including duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding systems, and lighting systems for advanced power generation facilities.
  • Utilize digital design tools and software, including CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling platforms, following standardized procedures to produce accurate technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
  • Use Bentley Micro Station and other Bentley design tools as the primary platforms for creating and maintaining 2D and 3D electrical design content.
  • Support lighting design activities and, where applicable, use AGI
32 to perform accurate lighting modeling and illumination calculations across power generation facilities.
  • Ensure the technical quality of all design deliverables, verifying compliance with project standards, codes, and best practices.
  • Monitor and maintain adherence to project schedules and budgets, proactively addressing issues that could impact timelines or costs.
  • Coordinate design efforts across departments, teams, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives and seamless integration of electrical systems with other disciplines.
  • Guide and supervise engineering technicians and support staff by coordinating conceptual and detailed design activities.
  • Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and oversight to less experienced team members to promote quality, efficiency, and professional development.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative engineering solutions and digital design practices within the Virtual Design & Data Solutions team.
Essential Skills
  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology.
  • Typically a minimum of 15 years of related work experience in electrical design.
  • Power generation design industry experience, with a focus on advanced power generation facilities.
  • Advanced proficiency with Bentley Micro Station for 2D and 3D electrical design.
  • Experience with 3D modeling of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Hands-on experience with duct bank design, including routing and coordination with other utilities.
  • Hands-on experience with cable tray design for power and control systems.
  • Experience designing grounding systems for power generation facilities.
  • Experience with lighting design for industrial or power generation environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices as applied to power generation projects.
  • Ability to use digital design tools, including CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling software, to create and maintain technical documentation and project deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and support project budgets and schedules.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience functioning in a lead, technical specialist, or supervisory capacity within an engineering design environment.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology is preferred.
  • Experience with AGI
32 for lighting modeling and illumination calculations is preferred but not required.
  • Background in Virtual Design & Data Solutions or similar digital design environments.
  • Experience working on complex infrastructure projects within the power providers or power generation market sector.
  • Ability to adapt to standardized design procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of digital design workflows.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively guide and support engineering technicians and other team members.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid work model that combines in-office and remote collaboration.
Work Environment

This role is based onsite at one of several office locations and requires the successful candidate to work in the office five days per week for the first 90 days. After this initial period, the position follows a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days working remotely each week, provided the candidate lives within a reasonable commuting distance of the office.
