Primary Talent Partners has a new contract opening for a Project Manager II with our large power and utilities client in Raleigh, NC. This is a 3-year contract with a potential for extension. This is a hybrid position - 3 days a week in office.
Pay: $70.00 - $80.00/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA-compliant supplemental package available for enrollment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to sit on Primary Talent Partners W2 without sponsorship.
Description:
Seeking Project Manager II candidates to support the planning, execution, and delivery of transmission capital projects. This role is responsible for managing projects from initiation through closeout while ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective execution. The Project Manager II will coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, environmental, regulatory, real estate, and external contractors to successfully deliver transmission line and substation projects that support system reliability, load growth, asset replacement, and grid modernization initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess utility project management experience, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Manage transmission capital projects from project authorization through construction and closeout.
- Develop and maintain project scope, schedules, budgets, forecasts, and risk mitigation plans.
- Lead project teams comprised of Subject Matter Experts from various business units.
- Coordinate project activities across many stakeholders that include but are not limited to engineering, environmental, permitting, land services, construction, operations, outage planning teams, etc.
- Lead project team meetings and provide regular status updates to leadership and stakeholders.
- Monitor project performance and drive resolution of scope, schedule, cost, and resource challenges.
- Support development of project estimates, business cases, and funding requests.
- Coordinate contractor and consultant activities throughout project execution.
- Ensure compliance with company safety requirements, engineering standards, environmental regulations, and regulatory commitments.
- Support transmission outage planning and coordination to minimize operational impacts during project execution.
- Identify/manage project risks and implement corrective actions to maintain project objectives.
- Review and approve project documentation, change requests, and contractor deliverables.
- Facilitate project closeout activities, including turnover to operations and lessons learned documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Project Management, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum 6 years of project management experience within a utility, engineering, construction, energy, or infrastructure environment.
- Experience managing projects with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
- Utility transmission project experience.
- Experience supporting transmission line, substation, relay, protection and control, or grid modernization projects.
- Knowledge of electric transmission systems and utility operations.
- Experience coordinating transmission outages and construction activities.
- Familiarity with utility capital project processes and governance.
- PMP certification or progress toward certification.
- Experience working with external engineering firms, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Hybrid work arrangement. Minimum of 3/days week in Raleigh office.
- Travel to project sites, substations, operating centers, and stakeholder meetings as required.
- Ability to support multiple concurrent transmission projects across a diverse project portfolio.
