Job Description Electrical / RCDD Engineer
Summary

Our client, a leader in healthcare-focused architecture and engineering consulting, is recruiting a skilled Electrical and Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) Engineer. This pivotal role drives the research, development, and creation of detailed electrical and low-voltage construction plans for complex medical facilities. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between power distribution design and Information and Communications Technology (ICT), acting as a trusted subject-matter expert who guides projects from initial concept to final delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the complete design lifecycle for electrical and ICT systems, ensuring seamless execution from planning to project closeout.
  • Engineer critical hospital power infrastructure, including emergency generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and automatic transfer switches.
  • Create and validate ICT specifications that define material standards, installation protocols, and performance benchmarks in alignment with ANSI/TIA guidelines.
  • Conduct advanced electrical analyses, including arc-flash studies, short-circuit calculations, breaker coordination, and medium-voltage distribution planning.
  • Guarantee adherence to all relevant safety and building codes, specifically NFPA 70, NFPA 72, local regulations, and specialized healthcare mandates.
  • Collaborate closely with architects and multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate power, lighting, and low-voltage systems effectively.
  • Manage project timelines, quality standards, and budgetary constraints while providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineering staff.
Requirements
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Maintain a current Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Possess an active Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.
  • Have current registration with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
  • Demonstrate a minimum of six years of experience in the architecture or engineering sector, with at least two years in a licensed professional capacity.
  • Exhibit strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, as this position is subject to federal contractor requirements.
  • Possess the ability to travel up to 20% of the time as project demands require.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven experience with healthcare projects, specifically involving essential electrical systems, emergency power, patient-care environments, and critical-branch circuits.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 99 standards.
  • Hands-on experience utilizing power-system study software such as SKM, ETAP, or equivalent tools.
  • Additional credentials such as LEED certification, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or Lighting Certified status.
Work Arrangement

This is a full-time position based primarily in our Raleigh, North Carolina office, with schedule flexibility adjusted to meet project and team needs.

  • Competitive vacation policy offering up to five weeks based on tenure.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage and life insurance fully paid by the company.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options.
  • Bonuses for maintaining professional licenses.
  • Eight paid holidays plus a floating holiday for birthdays.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program.
  • Reimbursement for approved continuing education.
