A Day in the Life of a Mechanical Engineer (EIT) at Hanson As a Mechanical Engineer (EIT), you will support the planning, design, and construction of building mechanical systems for a variety of facility projects. Working alongside engineers and project managers, you will help develop innovative and practical solutions for clients while gaining experience across multiple project types.

Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

Conduct facility studies, assessments, and evaluations, including:

Existing system due diligence reviews

Facility condition assessments

Feasibility and conceptual design studies

Probable construction costs

Indoor air quality evaluations

Utility master planning

Assist in the design of:

HVAC systems

Building automation systems and energy management systems.

Plumbing systems

Fire protection systems

Special piping systems

Prepare construction drawings and contract documents using Revit.

Perform field investigations and document existing mechanical systems.

Assist engineers with:

Load calculations

Energy modeling

Equipment selection

System layouts and design development

Support the preparation of technical specifications, reports, and design documentation.

Participate in shop drawing reviews and construction administration activities.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Perform other duties as assigned by project and department leadership.

What We're Looking For Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

Minimum of four (4) years of experience designing and drafting (modeling) mechanical building systems (including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection).

Experience with building systems commissioning is a plus.

E.I.T. certification.

PE or ability to get licensed in one (1) year a plus.

Technical Skills Proficiency with Revit.

Experience with Trane Trace or similar energy modeling/load calculation software is preferred.

Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Ability to interpret construction documents, including engineering drawings and specifications.

Professional Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to engineers, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.

Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally.

Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new technical concepts and software tools.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Interest in supporting a variety of project types and technical assignments.

Additional Requirements Ability to collaborate effectively with team members located in multiple office locations.

Willingness to travel occasionally for project-related assignments and field investigations.

Ability to work additional hours when necessary to meet project schedules and client commitments.

This is an exempt position. The salary range for this role is between $95,000 – $115,000 depending on experience.
