Investment Accounting Manager
Location: Research Triangle Park - Hybrid
About the RoleA growing financial services organization is seeking an Investment Accounting Manager with strong experience in derivative instruments and hedge accounting. This role sits within the investment accounting function and supports accounting, financial reporting, and control activities related to derivatives and hedging strategies.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting knowledge, strong analytical skills, and the ability to partner closely with Investments, Treasury, and external service providers in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesDerivative & Hedge Accounting
- Lead month-end close activities related to derivative instruments, including valuations, settlements, accruals, and journal entries.
- Perform hedge accounting in accordance with US GAAP, including hedge documentation and effectiveness testing.
- Monitor hedge relationships and assess accounting implications of modifications, dedesignations, or ineffectiveness.
Reconciliations & Analysis
- Reconcile derivative positions and valuations across investment systems, custodians, and the general ledger.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items.
- Perform variance analysis on period-over-period changes in balances and P&L.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare derivative-related financial statement schedules and disclosures.
- Support internal and external reporting requirements related to investment and derivative activity.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner closely with Investments and Treasury to understand hedging strategies and evaluate accounting impacts of new transactions.
- Coordinate with external service providers and asset management partners as needed.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to enhance controls, streamline workflows, and increase automation across derivative and hedge accounting processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within financial services, insurance, asset management, or investment environments.
- Strong technical understanding of derivative instruments and hedge accounting under US GAAP.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capabilities.
- Experience working with complex investment data and multiple systems.
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Strong communicator able to collaborate with investment and treasury professionals.
- Proactive, process-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
