Job Description & How to Apply Below

HCG Funds is a leading SEC-registered private credit investment manager, investing in small-balance commercial and consumer loans enabled by technology. We target attractive absolute and relative risk-adjusted returns from a growing $150+ billion target market. Since the firm’s inception in 2009, we have purchased over $5 billion in loans on a mission to transform the future of finance through trust, innovation, and capital.

Unlike traditional investment funds, much of what we do requires building new technology and applying novel solutions. Our team combines investing, technology, data, and finance to create an operating platform that underpins our investment process. We are innovators in alternative investment programs rooted in Fintech, investing and working with some of the world's most pioneering companies to create value for our clients through our private credit strategies.

THE ROLE

This position sits at the intersection of accounting, investment operations, data analysis, and technology.

You'll report directly to the Controller and work closely with our investment professionals, engineers, investor relations team, and external service providers.

No two days are exactly alike. One day you may be reconciling portfolio activity, another designing a new reporting process, helping automate a workflow, investigating an accounting issue, or partnering with engineers to improve how investment data flows through our systems.

Success in this role depends far more on curiosity and analytical thinking. We're looking for someone who enjoys figuring out difficult problems, building better processes, and understanding how complex systems work—not someone who simply wants to execute the same accounting checklist every month.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own accounting and reconciliation processes across our investment portfolios
  • Maintain portfolio accounting records and investment roll-forwards
  • Prepare and review monthly NAV packages and financial reporting
  • Perform cash, position, and portfolio reconciliations across multiple systems
  • Calculate investor allocations and management/incentive fees
  • Support annual audits and tax reporting
  • Produce portfolio performance and exposure analyses for investment professionals
  • Build reconciliations that explain differences between internal systems, administrators, custodians, and counter parties
  • Analyze unusual transactions and investigate discrepancies
  • Improve reporting quality and accuracy
Operations & Treasury
  • Monitor liquidity across the firm's ecosystem
  • Coordinate with custodians, lenders, administrators, and banking partners
  • Prepare borrowing base reporting and lender requests
  • Support new fund launches and operational initiatives
Technology & Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work
  • Partner with engineers on proprietary tools and data pipelines
  • Use Excel, SQL, AI tools, and other technologies to improve workflows
  • Redesign processes to make them faster, more accurate, and more scalable
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • Loves solving new problems
  • Is comfortable working through ambiguity
  • Enjoys understanding how businesses and financial systems actually operate
  • Can quickly organize large amounts of information into something useful
  • Has exceptional attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Takes ownership instead of waiting for instructions
  • Naturally looks for better ways to accomplish work
  • Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or another analytical discipline
  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals
  • Excellent Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Demonstrated proficiency using AI tools (e.g. Claude) to improve efficiency in analysis, reporting, and automated workflows
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
BONUS POINTS
  • Experience in investment management, banking, audit, consulting, fintech, or financial operations
  • CPA certification
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytical tools
  • Experience with Net Suite or other ERP systems
BENEFITS
  • Highly competitive salary and bonus opportunity commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability
