Budget Specialist & Accounts Receivable Accountant
The Budget and Accounting position provides financial and budgetary support to departments within the College of Veterinary Medicine. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Business, this role is an important part of the business office team and supports a range of accounting, budgeting, reporting, and auditing activities that help ensure the effective management of university resources.
In this role, you will work with a variety of funding sources, including state, federal, F&A, receipts, trusts, contracts and grants, gifts, and foundation funds. You will process journal entries, prepare financial reports, review revenue, expenses, and payroll transactions, and develop ad hoc reports to support financial analysis and decision-making. This position offers the opportunity to expand your knowledge across multiple areas of university financial operations while applying your skills in financial analysis, reporting, reconciliation, and compliance.
Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, sound financial judgment, and the ability to interpret and apply university, college, state, federal, and UNC System policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience - A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Understanding of budget development, monitoring, financial analysis, and reporting. Proficiency in accounts receivable, cash management, account reconciliation, and financial problem-solving. Knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and financial systems, with proficiency in advanced Excel and financial systems. Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills, and effective written and verbal communication, customer service, and stakeholder relationship management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in budgeting, financial management, or accounts receivable in a University setting. Proficiency with financial reporting, reconciliations, and account analysis. Familiarity with higher education, government, or public-sector environments. Proficiency using enterprise financial systems, such as People Soft.
