This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for current employees of the NC Department of Adult Correction.*
Position located at Piedmont Correctional Institution, Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), a medium male prison facility housing 800 inmates.
Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer II’s in medium‑custody facilities or institutions, increasing the custody and security coverage. Positions assign lower‑level custody staff to a particular area or post, oversee officer activities and performance, and ensure the custody, security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employees arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
Positions may serve as the Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC). Positions report directly to a Correctional Lieutenant II and/or the Correctional Assistant Superintendent. At this level, employees may supervise inmates in restrictive housing.
Skills and Abilities
/ Management Preferences
- Thorough knowledge of the overall operation of correctional facilities; and applicable policies.
- Thorough knowledge of procedures, rules, and regulations associated with the control and management of inmates, and of correctional methods, techniques, practices, and procedures.
This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special
Qualifications:
Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
