About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work

This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, Craven County. The prison is a Medium Custody Adult Male Felon Diagnostic Processing Center which houses 850 offenders. Employees in this class play a major role in processing offenders that are newly admitted to the prison system and arriving weekly/monthly at the facility.

Duties Include:
  • This position will analyze and interpret legal commitments/documents, medical data, psychological data, criminal history, social history, statistical information gathered from interviews and written documentation and develop effective treatment plans for offenders including recommendations for housing, custody, treatment and programs.
  • Comprehend and abide by policy, standard operating procedures, emergency plans, legal documents and other directives, both written and verbal, governing daily activities.
  • Perform routine supportive counseling and crisis intervention functions to include suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior and taking appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.

Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679

  • Knowledge of analysis and interpretation
  • Knowledge of rules, regulation and policies relating to offender custody and treatment.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques and principles.
