Join Our Team at UNC Health – Labor & Delivery at Holly Springs HospitalUNC Holly Springs is a growing community hospital offering compassionate, high‑quality care in a close‑knit environment. Our Labor & Delivery Unit features:
- 7 private Labor & Delivery rooms
- 5 OB Emergency Department (OBED) rooms
- 2 dedicated operating rooms
- 2 PACU bays
We work collaboratively with our Postpartum and Level II Nursery teams to provide family‑centered care to patients from Holly Springs and surrounding communities. Our model includes 24/7 in‑house OB provider coverage and strong partnerships with OB/GYNs and midwives. We also have a dedicated OB CRNA available around the clock to provide epidurals, spinals and general anesthesia. Each labor room is equipped with a labor tub and Nitrous Oxide capabilities.
We are committed to evidence‑based, best‑practice care and typically treat laboring patients at 35 weeks gestation and above. Our OB Emergency Department evaluates obstetric concerns for patients greater than 16 weeks gestation through 6 weeks postpartum.

SummaryThe Surgical Technologist I works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
The role requires baseline knowledge and ability to perform duties of surgical scrub at the entity they serve.
- Performs technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring that proper technical practices are employed according to accepted standards of process.
- Provides proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation.
- Follows aseptic technique, proactively identifying contamination and implementing corrective actions.
- Performs surgical counts and follows policies for incorrect counts, reporting discrepancies appropriately.
- Labels drugs and solutions and monitors quantities used.
- Assists in the identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
- Actively participates in planning and set up of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes for optimal accessibility during procedures.
- Assists the surgeon, demonstrating an understanding of the patient’s anatomy and abnormalities that affect the procedure.
- Assists in picking cases and planning instrument needs.
- Recognizes & modifies scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information, developing modifications to standard approaches and communicating with the surgical team. Responds to surgical emergencies and follows hospital wide emergency management plans.
- Inventories, receives, and stores supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
- Identifies and reports defective instruments, supplies, and equipment; assists with restocking operating/procedure rooms and sub‑sterile areas.
- Assists the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase of nursing practice.
- Operates complex equipment and other resources in the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
- Serves as a mentor for Surgical Technician trainees and as a preceptor as needed.

- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
