3 West – General Medicine

3 West is a 31 bed, general medicine unit. We care for a variety of medical patients with diagnoses that include COPD, diabetes, pneumonia, renal failure, minor neurological disorders, behavioral health, as well as many others. We are that team who can develop young minds and provide a supportive, mentoring atmosphere. We offer online self-scheduling, exceptional night and weekend shift differentials, and co-worker input on holiday rotations.

We support education and work hard to be flexible for those co-workers in school. Several of our bedside staff are masters prepared and 30% are Med/Surg certified nurses. We have several trained preceptors who enjoy guiding co-workers through the learning process, helping to identify progress goals as well as adapting orientation to fit the experience and needs of their trainee.

Job Title: Clinical Nurse IV (CNIV) – Medical Inpatient Unit

Position Summary:

The Clinical Nurse IV (CNIV) is an expert-level registered nurse who provides clinical leadership on a medical inpatient unit under the supervision of the Unit Manager. This role encompasses direct patient care, as well as charge nurse responsibilities, patient advocacy, staff mentorship, resource coordination, and quality promotion projects. The CNIV will join 3 West leaders to actively engage with staff to identify and remove patient care barriers and promote a healthy work environment as well as develop staff members by:

Assuming charge nurse responsibilities, managing patient flow, bed assignments, staff assignments, and real-time problem solving. This role includes direct patient care assignments.

Assist with crisis management, de-escalation, and complex decision-making in real-time patient care situations.

Utilize administrative time to complete delegated leadership support tasks in collaboration with the Unit Manager.

Provide on-the-job coaching and feedback to improve staff competency, confidence, and performance

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Coordinates, designs and implements educational programs to meet identified learning needs of staff, patients and families. Promotes and ensures staff participation in continuing education, orientation, competency, in-service and staff development offerings. Participates in development and implementation of competency initiatives. Serves as an area of specialty consultant in the design of educational programs. Participates in development of and provides clinical expertise for patient education materials.

Promotes professional growth of self and staff. Promotes a conducive environment for learning and provides educational experiences for students.

EVALUATION - Evaluates patient progress and revises plan accordingly. Maintains accountability for carrying out components of the plan. Works with manager to ensure care on unit is accordance with policies and procedures.
