SMT, Inc., a leader in sheet metal fabrication, is looking for a people-focused HR Specialist who genuinely enjoys helping employees, solving problems, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. This role is the go-to support for employees with questions, concerns, and day-to-day HR needs, while also playing a key role in recruiting, onboarding, and employee engagement activities.

This is an in-office position. Typical hours are 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM but could go past 3:00 on some days to assist 2nd shift.
What You’ll Do Employee Support & Engagement- Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, benefits, payroll, time off, and general HR matters
- Provide guidance and support on employee issues, escalating as appropriate
- Help foster a positive, respectful, and engaged workplace culture
- Coordinate recruiting support including job postings, resume screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communication
- Assist with new-hire onboarding, orientation, and paperwork to ensure a smooth and welcoming start
- Partner with hiring managers to ensure staffing needs are met efficiently
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation
- Support HR systems and data entry within the HRIS
- Assist with compliance-related tasks and audits as needed
- Help plan and coordinate employee events, celebrations, trainings, and engagement initiatives
- Support company communications related to HR programs and activities
- 2+ years of experience in an HR, People Operations, or administrative support role (manufacturing environment a plus)
- Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine desire to help others
- Excellent organization and follow-through skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Prior experience using Paylocity is a plus
