Job Description

As a Senior Lead Cloud Systems Architect at Rapid Scale, you will design, operate, and continuously optimize secure, highly available cloud platforms across private, public, and hybrid environments. You’ll lead complex infrastructure initiatives spanning compute, storage, networking, virtualization, backup, and disaster recovery, ensuring performance, resiliency, and scalability in multi‑tenant enterprise clouds. In this hands‑on technical leadership role, you will serve as an escalation point for critical incidents, drive proactive improvements to reduce risk and defects, and establish architectural and operational best practices.

You’ll collaborate closely with Cloud and Network Architects, Sales, and Solution Engineering to support customer solutions, influence platform strategy, and bring innovative cloud offerings to market.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop, operate, and maintain multiple cloud environments within Rapid Scale’s infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, hypervisors, backups, disaster recovery, and monitoring.
  • Lead Priority One incident calls as needed and provide advanced support for escalated issues.
  • Proactively assess environments and drive initiatives to reduce failures, minimize defects, and improve overall performance and reliability.
  • Document cloud architectures, operational procedures, and technical processes for use by Cloud Operations teams.
  • Partner with Cloud and Network Architects to support initiatives, drive cross‑functional projects, and deliver outcomes on schedule.
  • Support Sales and Solution Engineering teams during sales cycles, solution design, and product development efforts.
  • Modify system and storage configurations to ensure optimal security, performance, and connectivity.
  • Perform system and storage configuration across multiple data centers and multi‑tenant customer environments.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive systems and storage documentation.
  • Configure and manage monitoring, alerting, and backup solutions for compute and storage platforms.
  • Assist internal teams and external customers with troubleshooting and resolving issues within the Rapid Scale cloud environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years’ experience in a related field (or combinations such as a master’s degree and 6 years, a Ph.D. and 3 years, or 12 years).
  • Demonstrated expertise in compute and storage infrastructure implementation, operations, and upgrades, including platforms such as Cisco UCS, Net App, Pure Storage, or equivalent technologies.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and operating server, storage, and enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Strong ability to manage and execute technical projects with a high level of accountability and ownership.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in a 24x7 on‑call rotation.
  • Expert‑level knowledge of VMware technologies, including VMware vSphere 8, NSX, Aria, VMware Cloud Director (VCD), and ESXi.
Benefits
  • Flexible vacation – take as much vacation with pay as consistent with duties and company needs.
  • Seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
  • Up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for employees or family members.
  • Additional paid time off: bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
  • Health care insurance (medical, dental, vision).
  • Retirement planning (401(k)).
  • Paid days off (sick leave, parental leave, flexible vacation/wellness days, and/or PTO).
