Overview

WRAZ-TV/FOX
50 is seeking a Part-Time TV Broadcast Operator to perform master control duties in a multi-channel, news-intensive broadcast environment. This position is responsible for monitoring on-air and streaming platforms, managing automated playlists, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations, and maintaining accurate records of daily broadcast operations. The successful candidate will perform content ingest, editing, quality control, and transmission monitoring while troubleshooting operational issues in real time.

This role requires strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and the ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Monitor and manage automated playlists for multiple broadcast and streaming channels.
  • Monitor on-air programming and streaming platforms to ensure accurate and uninterrupted transmission.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of daily broadcast operations.
  • Perform ingest, editing, and quality control of programs, commercials, and other content prior to air.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to receiving and transmitting broadcast programming.
  • Operate routers, video servers, microwave systems, satellite control software, and related broadcast equipment.
  • Monitor signal quality and ensure content is aired according to schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and departments throughout the station regarding operational issues and programming changes.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, station policies, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrate a high level of alertness and attention to detail while monitoring multiple systems simultaneously.
  • Make timely and accurate decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are reasonably related to the responsibilities of the position.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to accurately log, key, and manage number and letter sequences.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work within deadlines and make quick, accurate decisions.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based computer platforms.
  • Experience working with automated computer systems and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic monitoring equipment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work first, second, and third shifts as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Technology, Communications, Media Production, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent related experience at a commercial television station.
  • Experience in master control operations, quality control, broadcast operations, or television production environments.
  • Familiarity with video servers, routers, microwave systems, satellite control systems, and broadcast automation software.
  • Knowledge of FCC regulations and broadcast industry standards.
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and monitoring multiple computer screens and broadcast systems.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers and technical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through electronic communication systems.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move equipment or materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention while monitoring multiple systems simultaneously.
Work Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily in a television broadcast operations environment.
  • Position requires shift work, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring immediate response to operational issues.
  • Frequent interaction with automated broadcast systems, monitoring equipment, and station personnel.
