Sr Lead Systems Engineer​/AWS Cloud Engineer

Job Overview

Location:

Durham, NC – applicants must live within 35 miles for a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three in-office days per week.

Job type:
Full‑time, exempt (salaried) First Shift (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. EST). Flexibility may be required for business needs.

• Design and implement AWS cloud infrastructure and services focused on security, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Provision and manage AWS accounts using Account Factory within AWS Control Tower landing zones.
• Configure and manage AWS Config for audit and monitoring of resource configurations.
• Deploy and maintain AWS Security Hub, Guard Duty, and Resilience Hub for continuous security monitoring and resilience planning.
• Manage AWS Identity Center for centralized identity and access management.
• Configure AWS Firewall Manager to standardize firewall policies across environments.
• Apply Fin Ops practices to optimize cloud spend and drive financial accountability.
• Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to design scalable, secure, cloud‑based services.
• Troubleshoot system issues across platform and application domains and recommend architecture and process improvements.
• Evaluate emerging cloud technologies, tools, and vendor offerings for business suitability.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as an AWS Cloud Engineer or in a comparable cloud engineering role.
• 5+ years of experience using AWS services including Account Factory, AWS Config, AWS Control Tower, AWS Security Hub, Guard Duty, Resilience Hub, AWS Identity Center, and AWS Firewall Manager.
• 5+ years of experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
• 5+ years of experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform or Cloud Formation.

• AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Security Specialty.
• Experience applying Fin Ops principles and cloud cost‑optimization practices.
• Experience with cloud security solutions and security best practices.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in fast‑paced environments.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with architecture, engineering, and security teams.
• Experience evaluating new technologies and recommending adoption aligned to enterprise standards.
• Experience in regulated or enterprise technology environments.
• Prior experience within Labcorp environments.
