Position

Title: Institutional Analyst Department: University Data and Analytics Location: Raleigh, North Carolina Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM (additional work outside standard hours may be required)

University Data and Analytics (UDA) is NC State's institutional research office and responsible unit for university-level data and analytics. UDA drives effective institutional planning, management, and accountability by:

  • Empowering leaders and decision makers with the accurate, timely, and actionable information needed to advance the university's mission.
  • Maximizing the value and availability of institutional data resources for the broader NC State community.
  • Providing NC State's stakeholders, partners, and external organizations with official university data.

Job Duties

The Institutional Analyst works with UDA teams to support comprehensive reporting and decision support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting reporting and analysis needs of campus stakeholders through routine and ad-hoc data requests and report preparation.
  • Responding to federal and state reporting, national rankings, and national study requirements.
  • Understanding the content, format, and data definitions of reporting entities, and institutional data and related products.
  • Conducting data analysis and producing reports that aggregate, summarize, and convey institutional data.
  • Developing, streamlining, and automating processes for managing, maintaining, and producing data and analytic reports.
  • Routinely updating standardized information resources such as reports, websites, or dashboards.
  • Creating documentation for all programs, processes, datasets, reports, and analytical products.
  • Supporting users of UDA's data and analytical products through development and maintenance of programming, documentation, and instructions.
  • Acting as a resource and point of contact for campus constituents regarding UDA reporting products.
  • Conducting data validation and data quality reviews of reports and institutional data.

Qualifications

Minimum

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree and at least one year of relevant experience, or
  • Bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with analytics-related programming languages such as SAS, SQL.
  • Experience with data visualizations such as Power BI, SAS VA, Tableau.
  • Experience querying, transforming, and analyzing data to produce usable information.
  • Ability to understand and work with complex, cross-functional data.
  • Ability to create and update analytics-related documentation.
  • Ability to ensure data accuracy, quality, and integrity.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to understand the needs of administration and the university community.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to follow security procedures and work with secure/confidential data.
  • Self‑motivated, with high standards for rigorous and detailed work.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one to two years of professional experience working with data to produce reports, dashboards, or perform data analysis.
  • At least one to two years of professional experience with analytics-related languages such as SAS, SQL.
  • Experience in higher education in a professional role utilizing or handling university data.
