Job Overview
Labcorp seeks a VP, Data Governance Officer in Durham, NC (or Burlington, NC). This full‑time, exempt role requires a hybrid onsite schedule and a first shift business hours schedule.
About the RoleThe Data Governance Officer is a strategic leader responsible for shaping and executing enterprise‑wide data governance initiatives across Diagnostics, Biopharma Laboratory Services, and corporate functions. The officer ensures the integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of patient and laboratory data, aligning with HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, FDA, and GxP standards.
Responsibilities- Data Strategy & Governance
- Develop and lead a comprehensive data governance framework for clinical genomics and oncology.
- Establish policies, procedures, and stewardship models aligned with HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, FDA, GxP, and GDPR.
- Provide strategic oversight to ensure compliance with privacy, information security, and consent management for genetic and clinical data.
- Oversee protection and access controls for PHI and genomic data.
- Data Quality, Interoperability & Reporting
- Implement frameworks to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Define and enforce data standards (HGVS, Clin Var, LOINC, SNOMED, HL7, FHIR).
- Enhance interoperability across LIS, EHRs, genomic repositories, and AI platforms.
- Develop and monitor KPIs for data quality, compliance, and governance effectiveness, reporting outcomes to leadership.
- Technology & Data Management
- Oversee implementation and use of governance tools (Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
- Integrate governance processes within LIS (Epic Beaker, Sunquest), EHRs (Epic, Cerner), and cloud bioinformatics platforms.
- Support Master Data Management initiatives for unified patient, test, and provider data.
- Define and manage budgets for governance programs and influence technology investments.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Oversee the Data Governance Program Coordinator team and develop a data stewards enterprise program.
- Partner with clinicians, lab directors, IT, compliance, and R&D teams to align governance with clinical and operational needs.
- Define data ownership and stewardship roles, leading training and awareness programs to promote data literacy.
- Influence governance practices across business lines and throughout the technology lifecycle.
- Business Impact
- Deliver accurate, reliable data for clinical decision‑making and operational efficiency.
- Ensure regulatory adherence while reducing security and compliance risks.
- Support precision medicine and advanced analytics through trusted, high‑quality data.
- Lead a team of 3 data program governance professionals; manage the IT Manager – Data Protection Team of 5 personnel.
- Influence technology initiatives enterprise‑wide and shape governance practices in clinical, operational, and research environments.
- Direct Leadership – manages a team of governance professionals and an IT data protection manager.
- Cross‑Functional Influence – shapes governance practices across clinical, operational, and research environments, influencing technology initiatives enterprise‑wide.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Information Management, or Information Technology.
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or healthcare data compliance.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Certifications such as CDMP, CHDA, or GxP‑related certifications.
- Experience with AI‑driven precision medicine initiatives, clinical trial data management, or cloud‑based genomics platforms (AWS Health Lake, Google Cloud Genomics, Azure for Healthcare).
- Background in next‑generation sequencing, molecular pathology, or precision oncology research.
- Deep knowledge of genomics, oncology data management, and laboratory operations.
- Strong understanding of healthcare and genomic data standards.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and governance tools.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and stakeholder management skills.
